Drive-thru McDonald’s restaurants in Denmark are upgrading to digital menus at over 80 locations around the country. Digital Signage Today reports that the new $3.9 million deal will provide menu boards which dynamically adapt to the time of day and environmental conditions.
Communications manager at McDonald’s Denmark Fannie Pramming said in a press release: “Digital displays for showing menus, inspiration and information have become obvious to us at McDonald’s and it was only a matter of time before Denmark’s restaurants also would be updated.”
Outdoor LED displays provide an excellent convenient service to drive-thru restaurant customers. They can be programmed to adjust to the level of daylight, and remain visible in any weather conditions.
Once installed, they can be remotely reprogrammed at any time to reflect changes to the menu, and programmed to display different items according to the time of day. This saves a great deal of time and expense compared to paper menus, which need to be reprinted and replaced every time changes are made.
Some digital menu boards have the added convenience of a QR code, which the customer can scan to access the menu on their phone, make an order, and carry out payment, all within a minute or two. This improves the customer experience, and speeds up the service, which ultimately leads to higher turnover and profits.
The flexibility of the format allows for better customer engagement, and they can be quickly updated with the deals of the day, or other promotions. The bright attractive displays can include animations to catch the eye, and encourage those tempting impulse buys which McDonalds is so good at.
Digital menus can be single, double, or even triple screens, depending on the range of contact on offer. The font size and layout should be designed to make them easy to read from a distance.
